Taking inspiration from the ice cores used to reveal historical climate information, the Datacore presents a slice of the history of the SE1 area in London. Through 6 categories (culture, trade, food, protest, sex and punishment) and 12 eras, from the Roman through to today the Datacore shows the history of the area through image and video.
Projected at large scale on the wall, the installation offers the visitors a chance to guide their own historical investigation of the area, through a single, simple controller that turns and opens the Datacore. Videos play automatically and images and captions can be glanced over or investigated in depth.
The Datacore was part of SE1 Datastories, an exhibition at the London College of Communication for London Design Festival 2016. The project was a collaboration with John Fass.
